WHAT IS A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN?
A comprehensive plan is a vision document that will guide future growth, development, investment, and land use changes within Cherokee County.
WHY DOES THIS DOCUMENT NEED TO BE UPDATED?
The current Cherokee County comprehensive plan was last updated in 2018. Since then, the County has grown rapidly, becoming one of the most populous counties in Metro Atlanta. Updating the comprehensive plan will allow the County to renew their vision of the future for years to come.
DEVELOPING THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY
Research and review the existing conditions of Cherokee County.
VISION
The project team will gather input from stakeholders including residents, property owners, and staff about their vision for Cherokee County.
DEVELOP
The community input will help inform policies and guidelines that are included as the comprehensive plan is drafted.
DOCUMENT
Comprehensive plan elements such as maps, polices, narratives are updated.

Board of Commissioners Public Hearing and Transmittal
The Cherokee County Comprehensive Plan will be discussed at the Board of Commissioners Meeting!
Past Event: Community Meeting #1
On October 11, 2022, the first community meeting was held for the comprehensive planning process at the Northside Cherokee Conference Center. Attendees were asked to provide input on several topics including Community Scale, New Uses & Amenities, and Issues & Concerns around the County.
Past Event: Community Meeting #2
The second community meeting was held on October 19, 2022 at the WREC-Recreation Center. Attendees were asked to provide input on several topics including Community Scale, New Uses & Amenities, and Issues & Concerns around the County.
Past Event: Ball Ground Workshop
The Ball Ground Workshop was held on October 25, 2022 at Ball Ground City Hall. Attendees at this meeting were asked to give input focused on Ball Ground by sharing where in the city needed change and preservation, their thoughts on the future development map, and by completing a survey. More general feedback for the county was also welcome.
Past Event: Airport/Tech Ridge Workshop
On October 27, 2022, the Airport/Tech Ridge Workshop was held at Airport Industrial Fire Station Community Room. This area is an activity hub for Cherokee County and attendees were asked to provide input on several topics including Community Scale and the Future Development Map.
Past Event: Waleska Workshop
The Waleska Workshop was held at the Waleska Fire Station Community Room on November 3, 2022. Attendees at this meeting were asked to give input focused on Waleska by sharing where in the city needed change and preservation, their thoughts on the future development map, and by completing a survey. General feedback for the county was also welcome.
Past Event: Freehome Workshop
The last Target Area Workshop was held in Freehome on November 10, 2022. Participants helped identify areas for preservation and change, and shared their thoughts about the scale of development they desired in the area.
Past Event: Community Meeting
A community meeting was held on April 11, 2023 at the Northside Cherokee Conference Center. This was an opportunity to review and give input on the draft comprehensive plan document. If you missed the meeting, scroll up to review the draft plan!
Past Event: Board of Commissioners Public Hearing and Transmittal
On May 16, 2023 The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners voted to transmit the Our Cherokee Comprehensive Plan to the state for review.
