Welcome to the City of Augusta's public input tool for the Walton Way Safety and Operational Improvements Study and the Monte Sano Avenue Improvement Project. Please read the below for overview information on the two projects and how you can provide your input!
Walton Way Overview
Walton
Way is exceptionally narrow for a four-lane roadway, and as traffic volumes and
speeds have increased over the years, the insufficient land widths have become
apparent in frequency and types of vehicular accidents. This project would
reconfigure the roadway to have one travel lane in each direction and a center
running left turn lane. This would provide a safe space for left-turning
vehicles to queue before turning and improve lane widths, improving safety. A
roundabout has also been proposed at the intersection of Hickman Road to
improve safety. The existing S-curve in Walton Way has contributed to a very
high rate of crashes at this location and a roundabout is expected to improve
safety by simplifying the roadway geometry and reducing vehicular speeds at
this location.
Monte Sano Overview Infrastructure improvements, funded through local and TIA dollars, are proposed along the Monte Sano Avenue corridor from Wrightsboro Road to Walton Way. These improvements include enhancements for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians and will integrate stormwater, lighting, and landscaping upgrades. The existing signalized intersections at Central Avenue and McDowell Street as well as the unsignalized intersections of Helen Street and Bellevue Avenue will all be converted to single-lane roundabouts.
How to Participate
Interactive Map - Please review the designs on the interactive map on this page. If you have comments or questions, please drag one of the "pins" from the top of the page to the location of your comment or question. You will be able to write a small note at your location for the study teams. You are also able to review comments left previously by other participants and "like" or "dislike" them. Please return later to see what others have written and indicate which comments you agree with!
Survey - On the left side of this screen there is a button for a survey where you can provide any general comments about these projects. If you have comments on only one corridor, feel free to skip the questions for the other corridor.
FAQ - Note that there is an FAQ in the "About" tab on the left side of the page as well.
